Wike-Backed PDP Caretaker Committee Takes Charge, Dissolves 14 State Executives

ABUJA — The Nyesom Wike-backed Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Caretaker Committee has declared itself the party’s sole legitimate authority and dissolved state working committees in 14 states, tightening central control amid ongoing internal crisis.

Acting Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed announced the decisions after a meeting in Abuja, stating the committee operates under the authority of the party leadership and the Board of Trustees, with the backing of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

States Affected:
The dissolved state executives are in Borno, Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Ekiti, Bayelsa, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Delta, Taraba, Kano, and Lagos. Caretaker committees have been confirmed to manage affairs in these states.

Rejecting Parallel Leadership:
The committee dismissed claims that a rival executive led by Turaki had been recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as “false and misleading.”

“We challenge Turaki to produce the code with which he uploaded his Exco to the INEC portal,” the committee’s spokesperson, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, stated.

Way Forward:
The caretaker committee approved a calendar for state congresses to begin on January 9, 2026, with a national convention to follow after their completion. Key appointments were also made to strengthen internal coordination.

The moves signal an effort to consolidate control and rebuild the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
