…Closed-Door Talks Held Amid 2027 Realignments and Rainbow Coalition Push
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Monday received prominent Niger Delta figure Asari Dokubo at his Port Harcourt residence in Rivers State.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the Rivers State APC governorship candidate, Hon. Kingsley Chinda, was also in attendance alongside other political associates and loyalists of the FCT Minister. Photographs from the gathering showed Wike, Dokubo and Chinda together at the residence.
Details of their discussions were not immediately disclosed. However, the meeting is believed to be connected to the 2027 general elections, coming amid heightened political activities and consultations across party lines in Rivers State.
Dokubo’s Pledge and Wike’s Coalition Drive
CDA News Nigeria reports that Dokubo had earlier pledged his support for Wike and President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 polls. In January 2026, the former Niger Delta militant leader declared his backing for Tinubu’s re-election bid, pledging to mobilise support for the President through the FCT Minister.
Chinda, the APC governorship candidate in Rivers State, is politically aligned with Wike. His support structure was inaugurated in Port Harcourt at the weekend as mobilisation for the 2027 governorship election intensifies.
The meeting also comes amid the ongoing political differences between Wike and the APC Governors’ Forum over the Rainbow Coalition, a cross-party platform the FCT Minister says is aimed at mobilising support for Tinubu’s re-election. The coalition has reportedly divided the governors, with some sympathetic to Wike’s efforts and others maintaining it could undermine APC electoral interests.
A Strategic Gathering?
CDA News Nigeria notes that the presence of Dokubo, a significant political figure in the Niger Delta, alongside Chinda, the APC’s governorship standard-bearer, underscores the consolidation of political networks ahead of 2027.
The meeting follows Wike’s recent hosting of Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri in Port Harcourt, another engagement linked to the Rainbow Coalition’s push. President Tinubu is expected to intervene in the rift between Wike and the APC governors soon.
No official statement had been issued on whether Monday’s meeting was connected to the 2027 elections at the time of filing this report.
