ABUJA – The Police Service Commission (PSC) has revealed that over 400,000 applicants have applied for the 50,000 constable positions in the ongoing Nigeria Police Force recruitment, representing intense competition with roughly 8 applicants for every available slot.
In response, the PSC, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, has announced a two-week extension of the application deadline, moving it from January 25 to February 8, 2026. The extension aims to address significant disparities in application numbers across states.
PSC spokesman, Mr. Torty Njoku, stated that while states like Adamawa, Benue, and Kaduna recorded very high numbers, states including Lagos, Ogun, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, and Anambra are “lagging significantly.” The move is intended to ensure equitable representation and give eligible Nigerians from underrepresented states a fair opportunity to apply.
“The commission and the Nigeria Police Force want to give eligible Nigerians from states with low application figures the opportunity to participate fully in the process,” Njoku explained. He urged qualified applicants, especially from these states, to utilize the official recruitment portal before the new deadline.
The PSC reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent and merit-based recruitment process in line with established guidelines.
