OSOGBO — The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the distribution of sensitive electoral materials across the 30 local government areas of Osun State ahead of Saturday’s August 15 governorship election.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the distribution is currently taking place at the Central Bank of Nigeria office in Osogbo, the state capital. INEC National Commissioner supervising the election, Kunle Ajayi, attributed the delay in the exercise to the late arrival of newly printed ballot papers and other materials from Abuja following the recent inclusion of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) on the ballot for the election.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the commission on Wednesday added the SDP candidate, Francis Ajala, and his running mate, Faseke Oladipo, to the ballot, bringing the total number of political parties contesting the election to 15. “Consequently, the ballot papers for the election, scheduled to hold on Saturday, 15th August 2026, are being reproduced to reflect this addition,” INEC stated. “The result sheets for the election are also being reproduced alongside the ballot papers to reflect the inclusion of the SDP candidate.”
According to Ajayi, the commission began the distribution to ensure that all materials reached their designated locations ahead of the poll. The election will be held in 3,763 polling units across 332 wards in the 30 local government areas of the state. Security agencies have deployed 15,000 police officers and 10,210 NSCDC personnel to ensure a peaceful exercise.
