Suspected vandals have overpowered security guards and stolen 12 metres of armoured cable connected to a transformer at Government Unity School, Ringim, in Jigawa State, leaving the institution without electricity.
According to CDA News Nigeria, the incident occurred at about 2 a.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2026, when more than 10 suspected vandals reportedly invaded the school, subdued three security guards on duty and carted away the transformer cable.
The Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Jigawa State Command, ASC Badruddeen Tijjani, confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday. He said the stolen 12 metres of 75mm² armoured cable is valued at between ₦900,000 and ₦1.05 million.
Tijjani disclosed that personnel of the NSCDC Ringim Divisional Office responded promptly after receiving a distress call from the school. He added that preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects attacked guards stationed at different locations within the school before carrying out the theft.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the incident comes weeks after security operatives recovered streetlight cables valued at over ₦1.8 million in Hadejia following a tip-off, highlighting growing concerns over vandalism of public infrastructure in Jigawa State.
Investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest those responsible.
