Falana Tasks Senate on Missing Oil Funds

Prominent human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana, has tasked the Nigerian Senate to launch a rigorous investigation into the alleged unremitted $123 billion and N66 billion in oil revenues.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that Falana made this demand during a recent public engagement, insisting that the upper legislative chamber must invoke its constitutional oversight powers to recover the missing funds and ensure strict accountability in the petroleum sector.

According to the legal luminary, the staggering sums were allegedly withheld from the Federation Account by various entities, including oil companies and government agencies, over an extended period. He stressed that the failure to recover these funds has severely impacted the national economy and contributed to the current fiscal crisis.

Falana expressed frustration over what he described as the government’s lack of political will to address the issue, stating that the Senate has both the legislative tools and the mandate to investigate the scandal and bring the perpetrators to justice.

He urged the lawmakers to go beyond mere resolutions and ensure that those found culpable are prosecuted and made to return the funds. The demand adds to the growing pressure on the government to account for oil revenues and plug the leakages in the critical sector.

CDA News Nigeria will continue to monitor the legislative response to this call and provide updates as the situation develops.
