Abia PDP Chairman: “Courts Will Resolve Party Crisis, INEC Has Not Recognized Ibadan Convention”

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Abia State, Abraham Amah, has weighed in on the protracted national crisis rocking the party, stating that the judiciary will ultimately resolve the leadership tussle.

Amah, speaking on the ongoing dispute, confirmed that the Independent National Electoral Commission has not recognized the outcome of the party’s National Convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, in November.

His statement aligns with INEC’s official position, which cited subsisting court orders restraining it from acknowledging the convention and the National Working Committee it produced.

“The courts will resolve the crisis. INEC has not recognized the Ibadan convention,” the Abia PDP chairman stated, emphasizing a legal rather than a political pathway to settling the internal conflict.

The PDP has been embroiled in a deep leadership schism following parallel conventions, with one faction led by Ambassador Umar Damagum and another by Kabiru Turaki claiming legitimacy.

Amah’s comments underscore the continuing stalemate and the critical role the judiciary is expected to play in determining the party’s authentic leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Abia chapter, under Amah’s leadership, is seen as aligning with the party’s national body recognized by INEC before the controversial convention.
