Anambra Asks Residents to Submit Evidence Against Arrested ‘Fake’ Pastors

The Anambra State Government has appealed to residents to provide credible evidence against individuals arrested during its ongoing crackdown on suspected fake pastors and fraudulent religious activities.

State authorities said the request became necessary to ensure that investigations are based on verifiable facts and that any prosecution arising from the arrests is supported by sufficient evidence.

According to government officials, members of the public who may have been victims or witnesses of alleged fraudulent practices are encouraged to come forward with relevant information, documents, recordings, or other materials that could assist investigators.

The government reiterated its commitment to sanitising the religious space while respecting the constitutional rights of genuine worshippers and religious leaders operating within the law.

Officials stressed that the exercise is not targeted at any particular denomination or faith group but is aimed at addressing activities considered harmful, deceptive, or exploitative.

Residents were urged to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and avoid spreading unverified allegations capable of prejudicing ongoing investigations.

The development follows recent arrests linked to the state’s efforts to regulate religious activities and curb practices deemed contrary to public order and consumer protection laws.

Authorities assured the public that due process would be followed and that only individuals found culpable through lawful investigations would face prosecution.
