Atiku Describes Son’s Defection to APC as “Personal Choice,” Slams Party’s Governance

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has broken his silence on his son Abba Abubakar’s defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as a “personal choice” in a democracy.

In a statement on X, Atiku emphasized that he does not interfere with the political choices of his children or Nigerians. However, he criticized the APC’s governance, saying his primary concern is “the severe economic and social hardships it has imposed on our people.”

Abba Abubakar, formerly of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was formally received into the APC at the National Assembly on Thursday, pledging to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

Atiku reaffirmed his commitment to working with like-minded patriots to offer Nigerians a credible political alternative.
