Coup Allegation: I Acted Out of Patriotism, Frustration with Nigeria — Army Colonel Ma’aji

ABUJA — Embattled Army Colonel Ma’aji has reportedly broken his silence over the alleged coup plot, stating that his actions were driven by patriotism and deep frustration with the current state of the nation.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that the senior military officer, who is currently under investigation by military authorities, made this known during interrogation sessions. Sources close to the matter suggest he admitted to expressing grievances but maintained that he never intended to undermine the constitutional order, citing the dire economic and security situation as a catalyst for his actions.

CDA News Nigeria reports that Colonel Ma’aji is one of several military personnel detained in connection with the alleged plot, which is said to have involved discussions about an interim government. His defense, however, appears to center on the premise of constitutional patriotism, arguing that his concerns were a response to the country’s challenges rather than a quest for personal power.

As of press time, the Directorate of Army Public Relations has yet to issue a formal statement regarding Colonel Ma’aji’s specific claims. However, sources indicate that the investigation is ongoing, and military high command is determined to get to the root of the alleged conspiracy. The Federal Government has previously described the situation as under control, reassuring citizens of the military’s loyalty to the democratic process.
