The Federal High Court in Abuja has affirmed the removal of Julius Abure as the national chairman of the Labour Party and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize Senator Nenadi Usman-led National Caretaker Committee as the party’s lawful leadership.
Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong, who was present in court, reported that Justice Lifu delivered the judgment on Wednesday, stating that Abure’s tenure had elapsed based on an earlier Supreme Court judgment.
The court directed INEC to immediately recognize Usman as the party’s leader, reinforcing the authority of the caretaker committee amid the party’s ongoing internal crisis.
This ruling adds a new layer to the protracted leadership dispute within the Labour Party, which has seen multiple factions claiming control in recent months.
