The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested four suspects over a farmer-herder clash in Guda Village, Ningi Local Government Area, which left one person dead and several houses burnt.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the state Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement on Friday. The man who died was identified as Usman Jibrin, 40, who died while receiving treatment for injuries from the clash.
According to the police, the trouble began at about 7:40 am on September 23, 2026, when three farmers from Guda Village went to their farms on Guda Hill and found a herder’s cattle grazing on and destroying their crops. The farmers chased the cattle to the herders’ settlement, where an argument escalated into a fight, and the three farmers were injured.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that, in retaliation, some youths from Guda Village mobilised and set fire to houses at the herders’ settlement. The police said officers from the Ningi Division responded promptly, restored normalcy and took the injured to General Hospital, Ningi, where Jibrin later died.
Habib said four suspects were arrested on Thursday, October 8, through intelligence-led operations. The police said they were held over alleged criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, arson and culpable homicide.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, ordered the suspects and the case files transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for a thorough investigation. He urged farmers and herders to settle disputes through dialogue and peaceful coexistence.
The police statement did not give the suspects’ names, say which side they belong to, or state the number of houses burnt. The suspects have not been tried, and the allegations remain unproven in court.
