UMUAHIA, Abia State – A prominent member of the political structure backing Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has issued a stern public warning to the Labor Party (LP) in Abia State, urging caution in their association with a former ally, Mr. Maduka Okoro.
CDA News gathered that the warning was contained in a strongly-worded statement released by Chief Barrister Sam Ogbonna, KSC, JP, the State Secretary of the OUK Movement in Abia State. The statement was triggered by Mr. Okoro’s recent appearance on a Umuahia radio program on January 6, 2026, during which he reportedly made critical comments about the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.
Chief Ogbonna, while clarifying he is not an official spokesperson for Senator Kalu, stated he felt compelled to respond due to his long-standing knowledge of the relationship between Okoro and the former governor.
The statement levelled several serious allegations against Mr. Okoro:
1. Questioned Credentials: Ogbonna challenged Okoro’s use of the title “Doctor,” demanding he make his academic doctorate degree public and alleging the title is mendacious.
2. History of Dependence: The OUK Movement Secretary painted a picture of Okoro as a long-term dependent of Senator Kalu, claiming he has been on the senator’s payroll for decades, with Kalu allegedly bankrolling his bills, children’s school fees, and accommodation.
3. Accusations of Betrayal: Ogbonna expressed bewilderment at Okoro’s recent criticisms, reminding the public that Okoro was once a “ferocious spokesperson” who defended Senator Kalu on radio programs. He questioned Okoro’s motives for leaving the OUK fold to join the Abia Arise group and the Labor Party.
4. Warning to New Allies: The core of the statement serves as a caution to the Labor Party. Ogbonna posited that if Okoro could turn with such “temerity” against a party and benefactor of over two decades, “how safe are the Members of Abia Arise and LP?” He concluded, “Your best friend today can be your worst enemy tomorrow.”
The statement advises Mr. Okoro to focus on his personal sustenance—his “stomach infrastructure”—rather than engaging in what Ogbonna terms “melancholy and odium” against his former associates.
