ABUJA, NIGERIA — Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have called on party members and supporters across the country to remain calm and law-abiding as the Court of Appeal prepares to deliver its ruling today on the lingering leadership crisis within the party.
The appeal was made by the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, in a statement issued yesterday by the forum’s Director General, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo.
Describing the moment as a defining one for Nigeria’s democracy, the governors emphasized that the judiciary, as the custodian of justice, carries the responsibility of ensuring fairness, impartiality, and national stability.
“Whatever the decision may be, the PDP reaffirms its respect for the judicial process and its commitment to peace,” the statement read.
The forum urged members to demonstrate maturity and discipline before, during, and after the ruling, stressing that the party leadership would meet immediately after the judgment to review the decision and determine the appropriate next steps.
The prolonged crisis stems from the party’s National Convention held in Ibadan in November 2025, which produced a National Working Committee (NWC) led by Tanimu Turaki (SAN) and backed by Governors Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed, while a rival faction loyal to Minister Nyesom Wike constituted a 13-member caretaker committee.
Both factions have expressed confidence that the judgment will favour them.
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, the governors reassured members with political aspirations to maintain confidence in the party’s platform, pledging to provide a credible and people-focused political alternative for Nigerians.
