President Bola Tinubu joined thousands of Lagos residents on Saturday at the grand finale of the 2025 Eyo Festival, marking the cultural event’s return after an eight-year hiatus.
Dressed in traditional white Eyo attire and carrying the opambata staff, Tinubu took part in the procession at Tafawa Balewa Square. This year’s festival uniquely honored four distinguished Lagos figures: former military administrator Brigadier-General Mobolaji Johnson, former Governors Lateef Jakande and Michael Otedola, and the late Alhaja Abibat Mogaji—the President’s mother.
In his address, Tinubu described the celebration as “a great rekindling of our culture” and emphasized its potential to boost cultural tourism, especially during the festive “Detty December” period when diaspora Nigerians and tourists visit Lagos.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu hailed the festival as a “homecoming” for Tinubu and a significant milestone in preserving Yoruba heritage.
The event featured colorful processions, traditional performances, and prayers for Nigeria, drawing dignitaries including governors, ministers, and diplomats.
