Rivers APC Appeals Panel Receives 19 Petitions From Disqualified Assembly Aspirants as Wednesday Deadline Looms

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Appeals Panel for Rivers State House of Assembly aspirants, chaired by Abdul Mahmud, has received 19 petitions from disqualified aspirants challenging the outcome of the party’s initial screening exercise, with the submission window set to close on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

The development follows the publication of screening results by the Rivers State House of Assembly Screening Committee on Monday, May 11, 2026, which cleared 33 aspirants while disqualifying 65 others from proceeding to the party primaries.

The 19 appeals received by the panel are challenging these disqualifications, with petitions primarily centred on allegations of administrative bias, anti-party activities, and technical documentation errors raised by aggrieved aspirants who believe they were unfairly excluded from the process.

Chairman Abdul Mahmud and his panel are now racing against time to carefully review all 19 petitions before tomorrow’s deadline, as the outcome will directly determine the final list of eligible aspirants ahead of the APC State House of Assembly primaries scheduled for May 21, 2026.

Political observers in Rivers State say the volume of appeals reflects deep dissatisfaction among aspirants over the transparency of the initial screening, and are calling on the panel to ensure that every petition receives a fair and thorough hearing before the primaries.

The decisions of the Appeals Panel are expected to be crucial in shaping the final field of contestants and determining the overall credibility of the APC’s internal process in Rivers State.
