The President of GLOBE Legislators Worldwide and former member of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Sam Onuigbo, has expressed concern over recent comments by Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, regarding the 2027 presidential election, describing the governor’s position as a personal opinion.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that Onuigbo said Governor Otti’s remarks should not be interpreted as representing the views or aspirations of the people of Abia State.
According to Onuigbo, the position earlier expressed by the Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum, Senator Hope Uzodinma, aligns with what he described as visible Federal Government interventions across the South-East. He cited the establishment of the South-East Development Commission, the Port Harcourt–Aba Rail Project, ongoing work on the Eastern Rail Corridor and the Second Niger Bridge access roads as examples.
Onuigbo also recalled Governor Otti’s remarks during the recent visit of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to Akwete in Ukwa West Local Government Area, where the governor publicly commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms, including fuel subsidy removal, foreign exchange reforms and increased federal allocations to states. He further noted the First Lady’s announcement of a ₦2 billion intervention for the rehabilitation and expansion of the Akwete weaving industry.
CDA News Nigeria reports that Onuigbo said while every Nigerian has the constitutional right to support any political party or candidate, Governor Otti’s recent comments should not be taken as the collective position of Abia people. He urged residents of Abia State and the South-East to continue engaging constructively with the Federal Government and support policies aimed at promoting development and national progress.
