The Senate has commended the Nigeria Police Force for the swift arrest of suspects involved in the murder of a woman and her six children in Kano State.
Senator Ahmad Malam-Madori, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, issued a statement on Wednesday praising the police for apprehending the suspects within twenty hours of the crime. He described the response as a sign of a more responsive, intelligence-driven, and accountable police institution.
The victims, Fatima Abubakar and her six children, were killed last Saturday at their home in the Dorayi Quarters of Gwale Local Government Area. The police arrested the prime suspect, Umar Auwalu, and two accomplices following a coordinated operation.
Senator Malam-Madori expressed deep sorrow over the “heartbreaking” tragedy and stressed that while the arrests cannot reverse the loss, they send a strong message that violent crime will be pursued relentlessly. He also highlighted the importance of adequate funding, training, and equipment for the police to sustain such operational efficiency.
The lawmaker further acknowledged the role of vigilant Kano residents who provided helpful information, urging continued public cooperation with security agencies.
