SINGAPORE — The Singaporean government has announced a new financial support package that will provide each eligible Singaporean child with nearly S$70,000 (about N94 million) in government benefits from birth to age 17, as the city-state intensifies efforts to address its record-low birth rate .
CDA News Nigeria gathered that Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced the S$62,000 SG Child Support Package during his National Day Rally speech on Sunday, August 23, 2026, stating that the government aims to make a “fundamental shift in how we support families” .
The comprehensive package, which replaces the existing Baby Bonus Scheme, begins with a S$10,000 cash gift paid in two instalments within the child’s first year . From age one to 16, each child will receive S$2,000 annually in Child Credits, totalling S$32,000 in cash support .
CDA News Nigeria reports that when combined with existing benefits — including the MediSave Grant for Newborns, Child Development Account grants, and Edusave contributions — the total support will reach approximately S$70,000 per child, significantly higher than the current S$27,500 to S$56,500 parents receive depending on birth order .
Unlike the previous scheme, every child will receive the same level of support regardless of birth order, and children from single-parent families will also qualify for the full benefits . The new package is expected to benefit more than 610,000 children across 380,000 households .
