KEBBI – Several soldiers sustained injuries during a fierce gun battle with terrorists in Kebbi State on Wednesday, though military forces successfully neutralized multiple insurgents in the confrontation, security sources have confirmed.
The clash occurred during an intensified search operation for the 25 schoolgirls abducted from Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School in Maga, with troops encountering a terrorist cell in the state’s forested border region.
Military authorities confirmed that the wounded personnel have been evacuated for medical treatment, while a significant number of terrorists were eliminated during the exchange.
“The troops displayed exceptional courage during the operation. While we regret the injuries sustained by our personnel, we successfully degraded the terrorist cell’s capabilities,” a military spokesperson stated.
The operation represents part of the expanded military campaign to locate and rescue the abducted students, with security forces establishing multiple forward operating bases in the area.
Defense Headquarters has reassured the public that the injuries sustained by personnel will not affect the ongoing rescue mission, with additional troops already deployed to reinforce the operation.
The incident highlights the continuing security challenges in northwestern Nigeria, where terrorist groups have intensified attacks on communities and educational institutions.
