A female TikTok content creator at the centre of the controversy surrounding the annual Oloolu Masquerade Festival in Ibadan, Oyo State, has denied claims that she filmed the sacred Oloolu masquerade.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the woman, identified as Wasilat, also dismissed widespread rumours on social media alleging that she died following the incident.
Speaking during a telephone interview on Lagelu FM’s Ibi Aye N Lo programme, Wasilat insisted that she never recorded the revered traditional masquerade. According to her, she only filmed activities around the Oremeji area, including an Amotekun vehicle, and later shared the video on TikTok.
She explained that the Oloolu masquerade did not pass through the route where she was standing and maintained that she had no intention of violating any traditional customs.
Wasilat said social media users later urged her to delete the video, while some individuals subsequently approached her over the incident.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the controversy generated widespread reactions online, with unverified reports falsely claiming that the TikToker had died after allegedly recording the sacred masquerade. However, she has publicly denied both the allegation of filming the Oloolu masquerade and the rumours of her death.
