The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested eight suspects in connection with the recent violence at Gujungu Market in Taura Local Government Area of the state, which reportedly claimed several lives.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the arrests followed an intensive police investigation into the deadly incident, which authorities described as involving acts of culpable homicide and public disorder.
According to the police, the suspects are being investigated for their alleged roles in the killings and other criminal activities linked to the unrest. The command assured residents that those found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The police also appealed to members of the public to remain calm, avoid taking the law into their own hands and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could assist ongoing investigations.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that security has been reinforced around Gujungu and neighbouring communities to prevent further violence, while efforts continue to identify and apprehend other individuals connected to the incident. Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring those responsible are brought to justice.
