VeryDarkMan Alleges Military, Police, Immigration Are Nigeria’s ‘Unknown Gunmen’

ABUJA — Controversial social media activist and influencer, VeryDarkMan (VDM), whose real name is Martins Otse, has made a series of incendiary allegations, claiming that the military, police, and immigration services are the “unknown gunmen” responsible for widespread insecurity in Nigeria.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that VDM, in a widely circulated video, leveled the accusation against the country’s uniformed forces. His comments come amidst ongoing public debate over the persistent attacks and kidnappings by criminal gangs often referred to as “unknown gunmen.” VDM suggested that it is not armed groups or bandits, but rather state security agencies using their weapons and operational capabilities to destabilize the country.

CDA News Nigeria reports that the activist is no stranger to controversy. In October 2024, he was summoned by the FCT Police Command over allegations of impersonation for wearing a police uniform in a viral video, where he described himself as “CSP VeryDarkMan” .

VDM’s latest claims have sparked widespread debate on social media, with some users accusing him of crossing the line, while others argue his comments reflect a deep-seated public distrust of Nigeria’s security apparatus. The federal government and security agencies have yet to issue an official response to the specific allegations. The gravity of the accusation against state security institutions is likely to draw official scrutiny in the coming days.
