The FCT Minister has launched a fresh attack on his longtime political rival, accusing him of undermining the judiciary during his tenure as Rivers State Governor.
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that former Rivers State Governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, is unfit to become Nigeria’s Vice President . Wike made the declaration during his monthly media parley in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, alleging that Amaechi once shut down the courts in Rivers State and caused a pregnant woman to give birth in prison .
“Rotimi Amaechi, who wants to be Vice President today, once shut down the courts in Rivers State and caused a pregnant woman to give birth in prison,” Wike stated . He argued that a record of undermining the judiciary should be a major consideration in assessing political aspirants seeking sensitive executive positions .
Wike also criticised the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), accusing the professional body of becoming politically partisan . “The Nigerian Bar Association has now taken sides politically. They are now a political party,” he declared .
The minister had previously described Amaechi as a “political liability” with no electoral value in Rivers State or the South-South region , citing Amaechi’s failure to deliver significant votes in previous presidential elections despite occupying strategic campaign positions .
