ABUJA – Senator Ali Ndume (APC, Borno South) has launched a scathing critique of President Bola Tinubu’s inner circle, alleging that the President is surrounded by advisers who “don’t know politics” and are disconnected from the realities of most Nigerians.
In a candid interview on ARISE Television on Wednesday, the senior lawmaker issued a stark warning about growing political discontent in Northern Nigeria. “Anybody that tells you that the North is not grumbling now is not telling the truth. It will be loud in their votes if nothing is done about it,” Ndume stated.
He absolved President Tinubu of direct blame, attributing the perceived disconnect to the “calibre of people around him.” Ndume argued that unlike during Tinubu’s successful tenure as Lagos governor, the current team lacks capable, truth-telling advisers with national outlook and grassroots connection.
“He just picked people that don’t know anybody… They only know Ikoyi, Victoria Island and from there they fly to London or America where their families are living. They are not even full Nigerians,” Ndume claimed. He accused the aides of sidelining the President from constructive engagements with key stakeholders, noting that a promising dialogue between Tinubu and northern elders had stalled.
While expressing confidence that “the President can turn things around,” Ndume’s public remarks highlight deepening anxieties within the ruling party’s northern stronghold and signal a brewing internal critique over the administration’s political strategy and connection to its base.
